Aged in wood for about 2 years and bottled unfiltered, dow's vintage ports have a distinctive dryness that marks out the brand. The main sources for dows port come from the vineyards of bomfim and senhora de ribeira, and a little well-timed rain after the heat of the summer months in the douro helped the grapes swell, the skins soften and sugars rise beautifully. Well structured, sturdy, often referred to as 'masculine' in style, this young wine is vibrant now but should be allowed to age for at least 15 to 20 years. dows origins date back to 1798, when portuguese merchant bruno da silva set up a business shipping wine from oporto to london. In 1912 aj symington joined the firm and his descendants still run the company. |
